This Privacy Policy explains how The Virgin Criterion website collects, uses, and stores personal data in connection with the website and the book waitlist.

This policy currently applies to waitlist signups, email communications, and related preference management. It is intended to be transparent about what information is collected, why it is collected, and how it is handled.

If you join the waitlist, we may collect your email address together with records of your consent and content preferences.

This may include whether you consented to marketing emails, whether you chose to receive book updates, whether you chose to receive essays, and the timestamps associated with those choices.

We may also store limited technical or campaign data associated with a signup, such as the page used for signup, referral or campaign information, and workflow or system metadata used to operate and audit the signup process.

We use your information to manage the waitlist, send email updates you have agreed to receive, maintain records of consent, and operate the systems that support signup and subscriber administration.

Where you have opted in, we may send updates about the book, essays, and related communications connected to The Virgin Criterion.

We may also use limited technical data to maintain the security, integrity, and reliability of the website and signup workflow.

Where we send marketing emails to individuals, we rely on consent. Your waitlist signup records are retained in part to demonstrate when and how that consent was given.

We may also process limited data where necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and administer the website and related systems.

We use third-party services to operate the website, the waitlist, and the supporting workflow infrastructure. These providers are used only where needed to host the site, receive submissions, route workflow logic, and store subscriber records.

At the time of this version, this includes Vercel for website hosting, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for the automation server environment, n8n for workflow automation, and Airtable for subscriber record storage and administration. Where a provider processes personal data on our behalf, it does so in connection with operating the site and waitlist system.

Some of these providers may process or store data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on the provider's contractual and security commitments together with the safeguards that apply to the relevant service.

We keep waitlist and consent records for as long as they are needed to manage the mailing list, maintain suppression or unsubscribe records, and demonstrate consent history where relevant.

If you unsubscribe or request deletion, we may retain limited records where necessary to ensure that your preferences are respected and that you are not contacted again in error.

The website can store a small browser-side preference so that your cookie choice is remembered. This preference is used only to preserve your selection and does not activate analytics by itself.

If analytics is enabled on the site, it is activated only after you accept it through the banner. At that point, Google Analytics may set non-essential analytics cookies or similar technologies to help us measure basic site usage.

If you reject analytics, those non-essential analytics technologies should not load. We may update this section if the site introduces additional analytics or measurement tools in future.
